Speaking to the press afterwards, the Dubliner said that "in the circumstances, I feel that was a satisfactory result for us."
"I had 11 players who withdrew from the squad and another four or five who were not even available, so it was satisfactory especially as they were quite near their best team with all their foreign-based players available to them", he added.
"We had a team with a lot of young players with potential. Our midfield of Steven and Andy Reid, Mark Kinsella and Liam Miller was quite a bit different to our last two games."
"It wasn’t much of a game but the pitch was too grassy and the ball did not move well for either team," he continued.
"Early on we didn’t want to be chasing the game and we had to play our way in, but they had very few chances. The players have to learn that’s the way it is away from home, so this game did fit the bill of what I wanted."
Ireland, under Kerr, have now lost just once - althought it was that costly one in Basel - in 14 internationals.
"That is three clean sheets in our last four matches now, against quality opposition," added the man nicknamed "The Greener", "and I felt we did well considering we were short of our best team."
