When asked about a possible upset, Kerr (left) replied: "We’ve not had too many upsets over the years.
"The main one would be dropping the points in Liechtenstein (1995), but other than that we’ve had the odd scare, like Andorra scoring first here (2001), but the team came back and won well in the end.
"But that’s international football, and the strange results are becoming more frequent. We’ve just got to be ready to do our stuff, to be determined and to be on top of it. We need everybody to be on form.
"In particular, our wide players have shown in the past they have the ability to get in and make headway and openings for us.
"We’ve not had so much of an option in playing off big men more recently since Niall (Quinn) retired.
"We’ve had to try to play our way in and use the individual skills of players. That’s what we will continue to do tonight.
"We will try and use the width of the pitch as best we can, while restricting them to as little as possible and defending as well as they have done so far because they’re a big, strong team who play a Scandinavian-type of football.
"They’ve a few players who can knock it around as well. They play it rough and tough enough, so we have to be patient, and we need the crowd to be patient. But overall, we just need to do a professional job."
Kerr also paid tribute to former skipper Roy Keane - who will be lining out for his third competitive international since making his return last May against Romania.
"It’s crucial Roy is back," stated Kerr. "He has a depth of experience, knowledge, understanding, a desire to do his stuff and to try to ensure he helps to get the best out of everyone else we have in the team. He’s done a smashing job in that so far."
The only injury worry eminating from the Irish base is Nottingham Forest midfielder Andy Reid (ankle), who sustained a slight knock in training on Monday.
If Reid is unavailable, Kerr will probably plump for a near-unchanged line-up with Gary Doherty to deputise for the injured Clinton Morrison (knee).
