Kerr: I would have settled for 2-0

Kerr, in charge of Ireland for the 23rd time, garnered his thirteenth win and one of the most expected of his 20-month tenure.

Eight points from four games on the road to Germany 2006 had Kerr deservedly beaming last night, ahead of next month's friendly international against Croatia and a second with Portugal (February), before the March resumption of Ireland's World Cup qualifying campaign.

"I would have settled for that result before the start," said the former underage boss. "It's a good return.

"We had plenty of the play but we didn't convert that into goals. We missed a few chances. But the most important thing was that we got points on the board because other teams have been dropping them, especially at home.

"We've now got full points from our two home games and we have picked up points from two very difficult away games."

Kerr, looking forward to March's visit to Tel Aviv, added that: "Every game is important but Israel are a threat. They have given themselves a chance so that is going to be a vital and difficult game for us.

"The most pleasing aspect of the first four games has been the way that we have played. The way we have moved the ball around the pitch, the way we have passed the ball and the composure we have showed, particularly last Saturday in Paris."
