The 25-year-old netminder comes into the squad as a direct replacement for Hibernian's Nick Colgan who has just returned to training after a month lay-off through injury.

Kerr explained his decision to bring Kenny in, "I have spoken to Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock and his assistant, the former Irish international forward David Kelly, and both have given Kenny glowing reports. I need an experienced keeper as cover for Shay Given."

Damian Duff is also included in the squad, despite the achilles injury that is currently keeping him out of action.

Also included in Kerr's squad to take on the Brazilians is midfielder Jason McAteer. The Sunderland player has not has not featured for Ireland since September 2002, but he has now recovered from the hamstring injury problems that have been plaguing him, and has rediscovered his form at the Stadium of Light.

Kerr welcomed back McAteer into the fold, saying, "I hope he can do as well as he did in the past with other Irish managers Jack Charlton and Mick McCarthy. We can use Jason in the centre or the right side of midfield."
