Keane nets 100

Robbie Keane heard the fans calling him when he was warming up on the touchline on Saturday. The feeling is mutual for the Irish and Spurs captain who has found his home after an nomadic existence for the early part of his career. When he came off the bench for Jermaine Defoe who was captain for the day the Englishman took off his armband and put it on Keanes arm and embraced the Irishman.



Within 15 minutes the Spurs fans were celebrating Keanes 100th goal for the club and an achievement that puts him alongside players like Teddy Sheringham, Glenn Hoddle and Jimmy Greaves. The Spurs fans love a player who is commited to the cause and in Keane they see that week in week out.


He netted his 100th goal by shooting on the left and the ball squirmed under Sunderland Keeper Craig Gordans body. The celebration which Spurs fans haven't seen in over a year was the cartwheel and the gun fire that was his trademark.

Speaking to UEFA.COM Keane said

"It was a great feeling to have scored 100 goals, I'm very pleased. It's also fantastic to be associated with other great players who've done it as well. But the more pleasing fact is that my goal helped Tottenham clinch all three points. I'm pleased to have the 100th goal out of my way now. All I want to concentrate on is scoring more goals for the club and play regularly for the rest of the season."
