Keane injury mars first-half at Lansdowne

The Irish side has looked woefully short of match fitness at times and palyed to 'testimonial' pace in the opening forty five minutes.

The visitors have shaded the match on scoring opportunities with midfielder Marco Bresciano hitting Nicky Colgan's crossbar in the opening quarter with a thunderous 25-yard drive.
Matt Holland took a knock early on and was substituted as a precaution and a note of goodwill to new employers Charlton Athletic. Colin Healy came on for him and has linked well with Steve Finnan and Steve Carr on Ireland's right. The game has contained a few niggles with Aussie captain Paul Okon going in on John O'Shea and Damien Duff with all studs showing.

The home side have given the Australians too much space and latitude to attack at times and sat off them when in possession.

Gary Doherty was gifted a free header on 32 minutes before Ireland's best chance fell to Keane in the 43rd minute. Unfortunately he miscued from eight yards and had his shot blocked by keeper Mark Schwarzer, but in doing so fell akwardly on his right side and had to be replaced by 'Angy Ant' David Connolly.
