Keane fit for Faroes clash

The Manchester United captain took part in some light jogging during the squad’s training session at Malahide on Monday morning and is expected to be ready to take his place against the Group Four minnows.

Keane sustained a knock on the knee joint during the 0-0 draw with France on Saturday night, and doubts had been expressed by his readiness for this week’s second qualifier.

The fact that he is one booking away from a one-match ban also indicated that he may not be risked against the group’s bottom side – as a caution would rule him out of next March’s difficult away trip to Israel.

But after overseeing training in Malahide, manager Brian Kerr is confident that the former Irish skipper will be ready to take his place alongside Kevin Kilbane against the Faroes.
