The 26-year-old, who will miss the French side's next two Group 4 ties before Christmas, could be out for up to four months according to club officials.
It's a third blow for France coach Raymond Domenech - who is already without midfielder Patrick Vieira due to suspension and dynamic midfielder Benoit Pedretti for Saturday's clash.
"I'm cursed," said Trezeguet in yesterday's French daily L'Equipe. "This is the sixth time it's happened to me. It's not normal to injure my shoulder every time I fall over.
"I will see a specialist on Thursday or Friday, and decide whether to have an operation. There has to be a solution to this."
Domenech is expected to draft in either Marseille top scorer Peguy Luyindula or Manchester City's Nicolas Anelka to the French squad later today.
