Jewell with Liverpool
FAI's official head-hunters met with Paul Jewell today to start the search in finding a new manager for the Republic of Ireland. Venables is the top target but Jewell is thought to be very highly thought of within the FAI.

It was a quick move after the FAI thought they had lost the scouser to Wigan but he turned down the job. He met officials in the Midlands in England today.

He is thought to still be interested in a Premiership job but is keeping an open opinion on the job. He will be in a battle with Gerrard Houllier and Terry Venables for the Irish job.

He is thought to be a strong candidate as he's a young experienced manager with brilliant qualities. FAI officials are worried the top candidate Venables is waiting to see if he gets the England job if McClaren is sacked.
