Irish Squad Named for France Match

There were no surprises in the panel with Roy Keane, Robbie Keane and Graham Kavanagh all returning after missing the Italian game.

Kerr insisted the French game will be vital but insisted that, as long as Ireland’s qualification is in our own hands, he is happy.

“We can get 22 points and Switzerland, at the moment can get 24 while France can also get 22. We’re in control of our situation and I am happy with that,” said Kerr.

“In the group so far, apart from the Swiss Faroes match, the games have been tight until the final minutes so I wouldn’t say that the bottom two are pushovers.

“We still have to play Cyprus and I’m sure it will be a hard game but the way the group has gone you would expect France to beat the Faroes.

“If Israel win in Switzerland, they can get 20 points and it will mean we’ll need seven points to draw level with them or win all three matches left to over take them.

“But if Switzerland win, they would all but knock out Israel and put themselves in a commanding position although they have hard games left.

“There is a lot that can happen yet but it’s in our hands.”
