Shay given has been included in the Irish squad for the forthcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers. He has been out injured and may not be available to play but is in the squad.

The Darren Gibson saga continues with the IFA chief executive Howard Wells adding pice to the legality of Darron Gibson's decision to represent the Republic of Ireland. The Derry born midfielder is at the centre of a furious row between the IFA and FAI.

IFA head Wells is adamant that the 19-year-old midfielder is ineligible to play for anyone but Northern Ireland.

He told the Derry Journal:

"I don't want to get into a war of words on this issue, but the Good Friday Agreement and passports are totally irrelevant. Under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement, I could get an Irish passport, having been a resident in Northern Ireland for over two years, but I still couldn't play for the Republic.

"The four points of eligibility are where the player was born, where his parents were born, where his grandparents were born and residency. As far as our legal advice has told us, we are right on this issue and we will wait to see what Fifa say."

Staunton has named the player in his squad for the Euro 2008 qualifiers. The youngster has stated he will not play for anybody but the Republic of Ireland.
