IFA will continue fight with FIFA

Howard Wells the head of the IFA say the body will continue to have Fifa enforce its regulations on the island of Ireland.

FIFA suggested a compromise that any player born on the island can choose to represent either national association but Wells has pledged to carry on the fight.

Wells said

"I am extremely surprised about this to say the least staggered in fact. All we are asking is for Fifa to apply their own rules consistently to all members of their organisation."

He told Newstalk's Off the Ball show on Wednesday night

"We've got to discuss it further with the IFA and the executive committee and then we'll take a position.

"We've had an opinion given to us by our legal adviser and we'll take note of that and we'll take note of that and decide how we're going to respond.

"But we've made it clear that we are going to respond and we're going to respond very positively."
