Garvan dismayed with Ireland omisssion

It has been three long years since he last pulled on an Ireland jersy and to say Ipswich starlet Owen Garvan is disappointed is putting it mildly. He has been axed from the Irish under-19 squad for next week's European Championship qualifiers. If this wasn't bad enough an experimental International full team for the friendlies against Ecuador and Bolivia later this month left him from the ranks.

The midfielder says he is "left shaking his head" at his continued absence from Republic of Ireland international squads at both youth and senior level. He broke into the Ipswich Town first team over 2 seasons ago and has been mostly a regular ever since. He said: "My aims next season are to do well for Ipswich and to play international football again. "I have been left shaking my head at not being called up, and it has been very frustrating. "I enjoy playing first team football, but missing out on the international scene is something I am desperate to rectify."

His omission is another suprise as the manager picked very much a reserve squad to go to the USA. Irish fans are used to Stauntons inconsistent choices since his tenure but to leave out players with real talent is still baffling
