Five-year deal for Duff at Chelsea

Duff stated that the deal is ‘brilliant for me’.

‘It was a tough decision to leave Blackburn, but it’s great to be here and I can’t wait to get started.’

He also denied Manchester United’s reported interest in him. ‘That was all speculation, and I have been down here three times in the last seven days and it just feels right.’

‘It’s a great challenge for me. I had a couple of days training with Blackburn but will soon know how fit I am once I get to Malaysia.’

Duff will link up with Claudio Ranieri’s side who are currently on an Asian tour, in the coming days.

Asked whether he will be pressured by the tag of Chelsea’s most expensive player, he replied, ‘It’s a great honour for me and my family. Now I just have to do it on the pitch.’

Duff is the fourth player Chelsea have signed in the space of a week – including Geremi, Glen Johnson and Wayne Bridge.

Roman Abramovich’s spending is just short of the £40 million mark.
