Radio rights are also included in the four-year term of the agreement, and interim FAI chief John Delaney insists the deal will help the Association implement a “very significant programme of investment”.
He said: “This is an excellent deal for the FAI, for football and for supporters of the game. The new agreement will enable the FAI to continue a very significant programme of investment in the game in Ireland and signals a renewed and strong relationship with RTE.
“The fee involved is a significant increase on the current arrangement and reflects a very strong market value and improving stature for Irish international football TV rights.”
eircom League supporters can also look forward to increased coverage of the games on RTE, with negotiations between the respective parties said to have reached an advanced stage, although no details of any agreement to broadcast a set number of domestic league matches have yet been announced.
