The Republic have played three times on October 11 before -in the famed 3-0 World Cup qualifier win over Northern Ireland at Lansdowne Road in 1989. And also when Jack Charlton's side beat Latvia in a Euro 96 qualifier in Dublin, with both goals from John Aldridge.
And not forgetting three years ago when Mick McCarthy's Ireland beat Estonia 2-0 at Lansdowne in a World Cup qualifier.

October 11: Never conceded an international goal on this date, and scored seven goals in three games.

Since 1998, the Republic have lined out six times competitively - winning three, drawing twice and who could forget that one loss, last October 16th at Lansdowne, against Saturday's hosts Switzerland, 2-1!

For the record: 1998 - October 14th - Ireland 5 Malta 0

1999 - October 9th - Macedonia 1 Ireland 1

2000 - October 7th - Portugal 1 Ireland 1

2000 - October 11th - Ireland 2 Estonia 0

2001 - October 6th - Ireland 4 Cyprus 0

2002 - October 16th - Ireland 1 Switzerland 2
