Elliott prepared to be dropped

Elliott hopeful of a start
Elliott was handed his fifth cap and second start by manager Brian Kerr on Saturday as Clinton Morrison was suspended and he repaid the managers faith by scoring his first international goal to keep Irelands qualification hopes alive.

"I don't know if I have done enough to start. That's up to Brian," said Elliott, whose eight-yard strike was also his first goal this season.

"I would like to think that in making a contribution I can force my way into the team.

"Brian knows now I am capable of performing on this kind of stage, so hopefully I will get another chance soon.

"But I realise Clinton has done really well throughout the campaign, and if he does come back in and play then so be it. I will just get on with it.

"At least it was great to score my first international goal. When it flew into the net, after it had been bouncing around the box, I was delighted."
