Delaney will have no role in next manager

Jonhn Delaney will have no direct input into the next Republic of Ireland boss. Many Irish fans are today scratching their heads wondering how the Chief Executive and other FAI officaials have kept their jobs following the aftermath of a blundering 21 month reign of the rookie Staunton.

Delaney said: "We did have a four-year plan and there were assurances given to Stephen but because of recent results and performances we've decided to change.

"The FAI board will now seek to appoint an outside advisor from within the football industry to assist them in the recruitment of a successor.

"We will appoint people who are vested in the game in a professional capacity to make the next appointment and I think that is recognition that that's the way forward for the association at this stage."

"I will not have a direct role in relation to the appointment of a new manager."

This news will at least have many Irish fans sighing in relief but it shows how inept the Association is when they waste yet more coffers employing somebody to find a manager. In any other industry the entire board would be sacked.
