That decision irked Sports Minister John O’Donoghue, who had set a December 31st deadline for the public advertisement of the posts of Chief Executive and Financial Controller.
The implication has been that Irish Sports Council grants will be at risk if the FAI fails to comply with the Government’s wishes, and with no schedule for advertising the two key posts set down in Thursday’s announcement, there is a possibility of another stand-off between the Association and the Department.
However, in a statement on Thursday evening, Delaney moved to quell any possible confrontation, saying: "I look forward to meeting the challenges which lie ahead and particularly to continuing our engagement with Government and the Irish Sports Council in the interest of all involved in Irish football."
Delaney will take up the job on a temporary basis following the resignation of Fran Rooney earlier this month.
The 37-year-old businessman, son of former prominent FAI official Joe, remains the favourite to land the job of Chief Executive on a permanent basis when the post is officially advertised.
