Although they lost the game 1-0 on the night, the two goals they scored in the first leg gave them a 2-1 aggregate victory in the tie.
A dull game watched by a mere seven thousand spectators came to life in the 59th minute when the Lithuanians took the lead. A free kick from Savenas found Klimavicius inside the Cork penalty area and although his shot was pushed against the upright by goalkeeper Mark McNulty he could not prevent it crossing the line.
Cork had to hang on desperately for the remainder of the game and had McNulty to thank in the 74th when Ekranas centre forward Luksys was put clear of the defence and seemed certain to score but the Cork goalkeeper raced from his goal line and bravely threw himself to smother the shot.
