John Delaney plans to build a new academy in Abbotstown will not be affected by the ressecion. The FAI Chief Executive will receive smaller Sports Capital Grants with the economy downturn.
He is confident that the academy will be up and running within 3 years. It will be of great benefit to Irish football for years to come and is definitely needed.

"We have heard nothing about any cutbacks in terms of what we are working on with the academy and I think probably being out here first in Abbotstown was a benefit in that regard,"
"I don't see any great problems from our point of view in terms of funding.
"We've submitted our plans in terms of the training pitches, the dressing rooms, the seven or eight pitches that we want.
"From my understanding there was about €120m set aside for phase one and that would encompass the plans that we are putting forward.
"I think, probably, the difficult part might be the Sports Capital Grants.
"There was €85m given out last year to all sports. I wouldn't be speaking for the Government, but I would be surprised if €85m was given out this year."
