Not all doom and gloom for Irish Soccer

The team compete in Division Two of the Association of Provincial Supporters Clubs in London (APFSCIL) League, in and around the London area and has started the season in sparkling form. Five victories and a solitary defeat to league leaders Manchester United Supporters Club, has the team in second position, breathing down the necks of their illustrious rival.

The team, which suffered relegation from the first division last season has regrouped and the busy Franklin has recruited several new faces to the cause. The addition of Martin Flannery, Dave Hestor, Paul Lavelle, Emmett Mannion, Mark O’Connor, Gary Stockwell and the Columbian Irish import Mauricio Carillio has made a significant impact. The team will shortly lose the services of Hestor who will wish to leave his mark before embarking on a round the world trip.

The team has also been boosted by the return to form of Donnie Mullen, inspired by his successful summer soujourn in Aussie Rules football. Club captain, Karl McGee has also been in inspirational form. The team is currently without injured team captain, Liam Kelly, last season’s leading goalscorer. Kelly’s absence has been more than compensated for by the goalscoring exploits of a revitalised Mick Coffey who has delivered ten, some quite spectacular, from his midfield position.

Midfield solidity is provided by Tim Nagle and Adrian Ward and both have also found the net on occasion. With the redoubtable, Darren Nolan guarding the net and last season’s players of the year, Jon Carey and Dan Healey maintaining their form in the full back positions, the team is very difficult to break down.

Injuries and availability will always play a part in football and the retention of a sizeable squad is vital to success. Manager Franklin, still dons his boots from time to time and with the forever young, Paddy McGee and Phil O’Dwyer in support the team does not lack experience. The recent scoring efforts of Damian Greavy, Red Hughes and Shane Roache have lent to the feel good factor within the squad.

The team play their home fixtures at the Post Office Sports Ground, Sudbury Hill and bedecked in their resplendant new kit, provided courtesy of the Football Association of Ireland encouraged by the initiative of the Parent Club Committee, welcome all to come along and view their Sunday afternoon endeavours.

The team enters a seminal period in their quest for promotion over the next few weeks when they meet unbeaten London Scottish Supporters on Sunday the 27th November 2005 and two weeks later on December the 11th they travel to meet top of the table, Manchester United Supporters Club.

The team is appreciative of the financial support provided by the parent club RISSC (London) together with the continued support of Premier Mechanical Installations (PMI) and Captain Morgans Freehouses who kindly provide a post match buffet after all fixtures. Discussions are also currently under way with a major NW London Plant and Machinery Hire Company concerning further possible sponsorship.
