Laura Hislop out of Ireland's World Cup team

The Franklin Pierce player starred in Ireland's historic 2-0 win over Switzerland two weeks ago in what was the Republic's first ever victory at this top level of competitive International football.

The Scots travel to Richmond Park full of confidence after a 1-0 home victory against Switzerland last Wednesday. The win puts them level with the Irish in the group on four points, increasing the importance of Noel King's side getting a good result.

The loss of former FAI eircom player of the year Hislop will increase the difficulty of Ireland's task as they go in search of a win that would make them favourites to stay in the top tier of nations for future qualifying campaigns.

Ireland will then play their fifth group game against European Champions Germany next Wednesday, May 10th in Cottbus (Kick-off 4pm local time).

Manager Noel King expressed his disappointment at the loss of Hislop: “Laura is obviously a huge player for us; her control, pace and eye for a goal bring a lot to the team and she will be missed. She made the final three nominations for FAI eircom Player of the year this year, so her quality is undoubted.”

He added: “On the brighter side, however, we welcome back Michele O'Brien from injury, who is the current FAI Player of the year. So it's a case of one in and one out. But that's football we must get on with it and focus on trying to beat Scotland.”

King has selected 17 of his 18-player panel and will decide upon the final member of the panel over the coming days.

There are still a limited number of complimentary tickets available for the game. For further details please contact the Football Association of Ireland on (01) 7037500.
