He has captained the Irish under-21 side and feels his absence from the Lithuania game was a serious misunderstanding, but Givens will not accept the Dubliners apology. Givens who is no stranger to falling out with talented players seems to have put his foot in it again.

"There were crossed wires somewhere along the line and I've been made out here as a bad boy. I rang Don when the squad for [February's] Germany game came out and apologised about the whole situation.
"That wasn't good enough for him, he told me he'd never play in his team again and put the phone down on me.
"I'm finding this very hard to take. Playing for my country means everything for me and I've been doing it since I was 14."
